Life at Low Tide
Oh my! It’s green and it’s alive! Nature bring us plenty of life in and around LBI, even at low tide.
Sailing the Bay
There are many boating clubs in and around the LBI region, who promote a life of sportsmanship, that support the local community and build life long friendships. As luck would have it, my photo included a small bird passing by as these sailboats cut across the bay, effortlessly. Another good day on the water.
Gettin’ Hitched
Overhand, figure eight, clove hitch, bowline or sheep shank; each a different knot but all having the same purpose. Growing up at LBI my life was shaped on the bay while boating and in the community through scouting. Knowing the best knot to use in various conditions is best learned in the early years of life. Later in life, you’ll remember tying the knot requires a strong bond and a bit of slack. Choose your knot wisely; avoid using the slip knot and your life will be everything you dream it could be.

The men who work to construct, repair and rebuild docks, piers and bulkheads know the meaning of hard work. Handling massive pilings, sheathing and lumber on the job site is usually performed from a barge like this one. Although barges travel slowly, navigating these bulky rectangular vessels through narrow channels, creeks and lagoons requires great skill and nerves of steel. Remember to smile and wave hello the next time you see them on the bay, they deserve it.
Lets go fishing! Fishing is always fun, regardless how many you catch. The camaraderie, that one fish that always seems to get away and the good memories that last a lifetime. Find a fishing pole, grab your Dad or some friends and go fishing anytime of the year; you’ll definitely have a good time.
Shack Attack. There are many old shacks sprinkled around the back bays of the Jersey Shore. Each having their own story and long tales of yesteryear. Look for more shacks in the months ahead and maybe a tale or two along the way.
